In tribute to former Senior Pastor Mark Bollwinkel, the congregation of LAUMC created and funded the Rev. Dr. Mark S. Bollwinkel Scholarship at the Claremont School of Theology. Pastor Mark received his seminary training at Claremont and served on its Board of Directors for six years. Well over $100,000 has been donated to the scholarship fund to date, with the goal of awarding annual full-tuition scholarships to deserving Master of Divinity students who aspire to serve as United Methodist elders in the California-Nevada Conference.
Little did we know that the first Bollwinkel scholarship would be awarded this spring to one of LAUMC’s own—Scott Kimball! Scott began attending LAUMC as a second grader, participating over the years in Rainbow Choir, Sunshine Singers, Lightshine, and Starfire. He was a counselor for the high school youth group and chaperoned five Starfire summer tours. Scott feels called to serve in a life of ministry and just completed his first year of study at Claremont. He is looking forward to returning in the fall as a Bollwinkel Scholar.
The Bollwinkel Scholarship remains open to donations; if you wish to donate, write a check to LAUMC with “Bollwinkel Scholarship” on the memo line. Awards will be made as long as funds are available.
