Why We Serve
The way we share God’s love for us is to serve others. We can serve by helping to meet immediate needs of our brothers and sisters and also by advocating for changes that will bring about long-term solutions to address the root causes of human suffering.
Serve at Los Altos UMC
We have a vibrant and active congregation and it takes lots of volunteers to support the diversity of programs that we offer. There are many ways to help meet the needs of our congregation.

Service in the Community
The Hands-On Missions Team of the Bold Service & Social Justice Committee offers many kinds of opportunities for service in the community:
- Hands-on volunteering in the community, often with local service organizations, including Hope’s Corner;
- Construction-related projects to provide affordable housing or improvements that would otherwise be unaffordable, including projects with Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together, sister churches, the Waller Center in San Francisco, and others. Many of these projects utilize our “Volunteers Making a Difference” Tool Trailer;
- Mission Trips, including trips to Mexico to build houses, disaster relief in other states or countries, and others.
Serve Beyond the Bay Area
Los Altos United Methodist Church sponsors a variety of missions that take church members, friends, and guests all over the world to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, bringing the message of love with open arms to others.

Social Justice
Social Justice Ministry provides opportunities and resources to study root causes of human suffering in the community and around the world — including unjust systems.
Compassion Week
