Why we serve
The way we share God’s love for us is to serve others. We can serve by helping to meet immediate needs of our brothers and sisters and also by advocating for changes that will bring about long-term solutions to address the root causes of human suffering.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me” (Matthew 25: 35-36).
Who we are
The Bold Service & Social Justice Committee offers many opportunities to serve in the local community and beyond, including mission trips. The Bold Service & Social Justice Committee is made up of four teams:
- Hands-On Missions Team
- Outreach Team
- Social Justice Team
- Education Team
The Hands-On Missions Team provides opportunities for all ages and abilities to serve, often with local organizations, doing a variety of things such as sorting food at Second Harvest Food Bank, preparing and serving meals at Hope’s Corner, constructing and renovating housing, including projects with Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together, mission trips, and more.
The Outreach Team provides ways to support organizations making a difference through donations, Outreach Connection Sundays, collection events, and the allocation of a portion of the church budget to selected agencies. They address basic needs for food, shelter and education — with compassion and sensitivity.
The Social Justice Team provides opportunities and resources to study root causes of human suffering in the community and around the world — including unjust systems. They try to identify changes needed and advocate for those changes, working toward long-term solutions.
The Education Team provides information and resources, sometimes through special speaker events or workshops, to understand issues related to service and social justice.
