Register Now for the Men’s Retreat

Registration hRev. Dr. Mark Bollwinkelas opened for the fall Men’s Retreat, November 11–13, which will be led this year by LAUMC’s former senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. Mark Bollwinkel. Men of all ages are invited to participate. The theme will be “Men Finding Our Way,” celebrating our uniqueness, finding new ways to trust, accepting who we are, and acknowledging 21st-century roles.

LAUMC Men's Retreat hike to Mt Hermon crossThe retreat weekend will include presentations, discussion, music, time for reflection, a hike to the Cross at Mount Hermon (optional), a project with clay led by Pastor Mark, a Saturday evening movie and discussion, and Sunday worship and communion. There will also be time for play, singing, walking, napping, and eating. Men are encouraged to invite a friend!

The retreat will be held at Mount Hermon Christian Retreat Center near Felton, about 45 minutes from LAUMC, amidst a beautiful redwood forest. The registration fee of $250 includes all retreat materials, two nights’ lodging in either a cabin or a deluxe room with a roommate and bathroom (no dorm rooms), and six buffet-style meals from Friday dinner through lunch Sunday.

Register online here, or drop off a registration form and a check payable to LAUMC, with “2016 Men’s Retreat” on the memo line, at the church office. Scholarships are available. Registration closes October 25.

If you would like to register online but pay by check, then under “Tracking Code?” select Yes and enter MENRET-CK. Your total will then read $0. Please bring a check for $250 made out to LAUMC, with “2016 Men’s Retreat” in the memo line, to the church office and attach a copy of your confirmation email to the check. All-Church Summer Barbecues Start July 28

Summer BBQ 2014 webYou are invited to enjoy fellowship, good food, and excellent entertainment! Bring your family and neighbors, or just come hang out with your church family at our All-Church Summer BBQs. They are scheduled for three Thursdays, July 28, August 4, and August 11, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm in Creekside. Admission at the door is $8/general, $5/children under 6, or $22/family. We encourage families with young children to attend and are offering child care for children under 4 in the nursery and games for older children. Reserve a spot for your child with Pat Osborne (650-948-7955).

Thursday, July 28: The Wesley Jazz Ensemble will play a variety of big band hits, jazz, blues, Latin rock & roll, J-pop hits, Motown, and today’s popular tunes. This group has received awards by the Honorable Mike Honda and the Honorable Zoe Lofgren for its musical service in the South Bay Area. You will want to dance around the room!

Thursday, August 4: The Lyric Theatre Ensemble will be performing music from Gilbert & Sullivan, operetta, and classical musicals. This talented group of singers gives a performance you will not want to miss!

Thursday, August 11: Our own popular Star Geezers will once again provide a delightful evening filled with their lively musical selections and antics.

In order to keep costs down, we are requesting volunteer kitchen assistance for the chefs. Please contact Pat Osborne (650-948-7955) if you can help. The shifts are: six people in the kitchen at 3:30pm, four grillers at 4:00pm, and four people to help serve ice cream at 6:30pm.

Join an Ashland Adventure, Sept. 28–Oct. 1

Ashland OSF promo smallJoin Senior Organist Paul Rosas and his wife, Karen, for a wonderful trip to Ashland for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and a great time with friends. The trip takes place September 28 – October 1, when Oregon’s beautiful fall colors should be at their peak. The group will watch plays, relax, and have opportunities for additional activities. The trip costs $840 per person, which includes transportation, lodging, some meals, and tickets to three plays: Great Expectations, Hamlet, and The Wiz.

Two optional plays are available for an extra fee: Yeomen of the Guard (with an audience participation opportunity) or Twelfth Night. Other optional activities include a culinary adventure (wine, cheese, and chocolate tasting), Jacksonville excursion, back stage tour, delicious dinners, shopping, hiking, and a discussion group with a lead actor.

Registration is now open. A registration deposit of $100 is due April 1, and final monies are due July 1. You can register online or fill out a print registration form (available at the Connection Points and the church office). You may charge your trip to your credit card if you register online, or send your print registration in with a check made out to LAUMC (with “Ashland 2016” in the memo line).
