Get Ready for Fall With a Weekend at Church Camp

Fall is a beautiful time at Camp Lodestar, offering turning leaves, cool evenings, and a time to step away from the hectic pace of everyday life in the Silicon Valley. You are invited to join a group of LAUMC folks for the weekend of October 13–15 to worship, pray, share stories, and prepare the camp for fall and winter guests. Since we will be doing service work, we can get a discounted rate of $80/person for lodging and meals for the weekend. Register online or contact Director of Congregational Care Patricia Parfett.

Family Fun Nights Aug. 8 & 15

Families are invited to enjoy some summer fun together! On two Tuesdays, August 8 and 15, bring your dinner and a picnic blanket, and join us from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on the grassy area by the Youth Room and Resource Center. Invite your friends and neighbors to experience how welcoming our church family can be! This is a great way to meet and get to know other families in our community, as well as the new director of Children’s Ministries. Please note: Parents are responsible for supervising their children at all times during this event, and all items brought in must be taken home at the end of the evening.

All-Church Summer Barbecues Return

You are invited to enjoy fellowship, good food, and excellent entertainment! Bring your family and neighbors, or just come hang out with your church family at our All-Church Summer BBQs. They are scheduled for two Thursdays, July 27 and August 10, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in Creekside. Tickets are available online or at the door for $8/general, $5/children under 6, or $22/family with school-age children. Don’t worry if you can’t come right at 6:00—dinner will still be available for late arrivals! There will also be entertainment for the whole family, including basketball, water balloons, games, prizes, and more.

Thursday, July 27: Dorita Strotman, a well-known pianist at local restaurants, will provide music during dinner. The Wesley Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of big band hits, jazz, blues, and more tunes after dinner—dancing and singing are encouraged! Water balloons and games will be organized for youth. You may purchase your ticket online or pay at the door. Child care is available for children 4 years old and younger with advance reservation to Pat Osborne (650-948-7955) by July 21.

Thursday, August 10: Dorita Strotman will once again provide piano music during dinner. Magician Phil Ackerly will perform, a delight for both children and adults, as he has entertained audiences off-Broadway in New York City and at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Following his act, our own ever-popular Star Geezers will play for us, offering lively musical selections and antics. You may purchase your ticket online or pay at the door. Child care is available for children 4 years old and younger with advance reservation to Pat Osborne (650-948-7955) by August 4.

All-Church Dinner: Welcome New Pastors, July 9

Come to the Creekside Crossings service on July 9 at 5:00pm and stay for the All-Church Sunday Dinner (starts approximately at 5:45pm) to welcome our incoming ministers. Senior Pastor Kathi McShane will give the message at the service, and then she and Associate Pastor Jon Visitacion will be available to meet the congregation and share fellowship time. Please register for planning purposes.

Animate: Bible Series, April 19–May 31

You are invited to try out a brand new opportunity for adults and youth! Come together for food, fellowship, and a fresh approach to faith. Starting the Wednesday after Easter, April 19, we will gather for seven weeks from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Creekside Center for no-cost dinner and fellowship, watch a short video from the Animate: Bible series, and then engage in discussions around our tables about the Bible.

Through short, creative videos featuring current Christian thought leaders, we will explore the history of the Bible’s sacred texts and what they offer for us today. (You can watch a trailer here.) The series offers centrist Protestant theology, and it focuses more on asking questions for viewers to engage with than on giving all the answers. The video segments feature Eric Elnes, Phyllis Tickle, Rachel Held Evans, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Jose Morales, Will Willimon, and Jay Bakker. Participants are invited to sketch, doodle, and create in the provided journals, then share their thoughts.

Come be part of the fun, and invite your friends! Each session stands alone, so you don’t have to commit to all seven. The GroupLife planning team wants to plan how much dinner to provide, how many journals to purchase, and how many childcare staff to schedule, so please register if you plan to attend.
