In the Steps of the Celtic Saints: a Scottish Pilgrimage, May 21

You are invited to join Carol and Dirk Damonte on a pilgrimage walk through the heart of Celtic Christianity. St. Cuthbert’s Way is a 62-mile walk through the English-Scottish borderlands. Cuthbert, a 7th-century monk and bishop, was known for his tireless travels throughout Northumbria, bringing the good news of Jesus as he worked with the poor and the sick. The walk takes the group from Melrose, where Cuthbert began his religious life, to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, where he died.

The group will pace the walking over seven days, ranging from 6 to 13 miles per day and traveling through meadows and forests, across streams and hills, past villages and abandoned castles. Along the way participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own life pilgrimage, sometimes walking alone, sometimes alongside companions. As the group rests and recharges each night, there will be opportunities to reflect together on how walking in the footsteps of Cuthbert is impacting the call to be changemakers in today’s world.

From Lindisfarne, the group will travel to Durham and Glasgow, ending the journey in Iona, a tiny island off the west coast of Scotland that resonates with a deep and timeless spirituality. Known as the birthplace of Celtic Christianity, Iona is the perfect place to be still, to reflect, and to expand one’s way of being to see the world through new eyes.

The trip cost of $3,550 includes shared accommodations in first-class hotels and unique B&Bs; land and ferry travel; experienced guides; entrance fees for scheduled visits; all breakfasts and nine dinners; and tips.
