Holy Week and Easter Services, March 20–27

Holy Week services commemorate Jesus’ life, death on the cross, and resurrection victory on Easter. Through Jesus, we come to know God. Travel the journey of Holy Week at Los Altos United Methodist Church. Join Jesus in his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, his last gathering with his disciples on Maundy Thursday, his sacrifice and sorrow on Good Friday, his time of waiting through God’s perfect timing on Holy Saturday, and his victorious resurrection on Easter Sunday. As you journey through Holy Week, may you discover a renewed commitment and a richer, more meaningful Easter.

Our services are listed below, or you may download our Holy Week at LAUMC flyer for your reference.

The God Story continues through Passion Week as we remember the Last Supper together. This quiet, contemplative service will include special music, communion, and a message from Pastor Debbie Weatherspoon.

Good Friday – March 25

Leave your prayers at the cross. Pastor Mariellen Yoshino will give the message, and music will be by the Creekside Worship Band.

Holy Saturday – March 26

Consider the many moments where God is STILL at work, even when we don’t seem to see it. What was really happening when, for a moment, the earth stood STILL? Our OpenCircle young adult group and Pastor Sam Yun will lead this deep and profound service.

The God Story: Lent Worship and Small-Group Theme

Can you see your place and purpose in God’s story? Throughout Lent, we will examine God’s story as shown throughout the Bible and find our own place in the narrative. Our worship themes each Sunday will focus on classic story elements. Small groups are invited to use Jacob Armstrong’s The God Story as their study guide in this season, helping each other find our roles to play in the story of God’s people.

Worship Themes

Sunday, February 14: Introduction (Genesis 1:1-2, 26–2:4)

Sunday, February 21: Suspension of Disbelief (Genesis 18:1-15)

Sunday, February 28: Rising Action (Exodus 16:2-4, Numbers 11:4-6)

Sunday, March 6: The Inciting Incident (1 Samuel 16:1-13)

Sunday, March 13: Soundtrack (Zephaniah 3:14-17)

Sunday, March 20 (Palm Sunday): Waiting for Resolution (John 12:12-19)

Sunday, March 27 (Easter): Twist Ending (John 20:1-18)

TheGodStory_CoverGraphics smallGroupLife invites current small-group leaders and anyone interested in potentially leading a small group for Lent to a workshop on Saturday, February 6, 9:00am –12:00pm in Creekside C/D. Jacob Armstrong, the author of our Lenten study book, will join the workshop by video call to inspire leaders in their own spiritual practices for Lent and equip them to use his book, The God Story, in small groups. The workshop is free, but please RSVP to GroupLife Intern Kristen Wandryk so the organizers know how much breakfast to provide.
