Invitation to Thanksgiving Dinner

Are you looking for a table to join at Thanksgiving? Or are you just tired of thawing, stuffing, cooking, slicing, dicing, mashing, mincing, and baking? Join your LAUMC family for Thanksgiving dinner! You can bring the whole family—even Uncle Bob! It’s free to attend, with contributions accepted but not necessary. No shopping, cooking, or worry—just show up and give thanks. Thanksgiving Dinner will be held in Creekside on Thursday, November 24, 2:00–5:00pm. The menu includes roast turkey breast, gravy, stuffing, honey baked ham, garlic mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, roasted vegetables, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, ice cream, coffee, tea, and milk.

Reservations are required by Monday, November 21. Register online here. We will gather at 2:00pm in Creekside, with dinner served at 2:30 (please arrive by 2:15). We hope everyone can give five minutes after dinner to help clean up.

If you would like to volunteer to assist with cooking, serving, or cleaning up, please contact Karl Hansen by November 15.

Celebrate Music Ministry at All-Church Family Dinner, June 26

We are truly blessed by the music our choirs and band lend to our services each Sunday. From September through June, Morning Glory, Chancel Choir, Starfire Singers, Alleluia Ringers, and Creekside Worship Band contribute to the message and impact of weekly worship at LAUMC. To honor the contributions of these musicians, the All-Church Family Dinner on Sunday, June 26, will be a celebration of our Music Ministry.

With the close of this church year, we will be saying farewell to the directors of two of our choirs: Daniel Hughes, director of Chancel Choir, and Larry and Carla Sue, codirectors of the Alleluia Ringers bell choir. We will recognize and honor the service of these talented and dedicated musicians/directors as a part of our celebration.

Chef Fred Mayo is working on another delicious dinner menu, to include: hot crab dip, Italian pork chops, wild rice stuffing, baked broccoli, garden salad, and coffeehouse chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Join us at 6:15pm in Creekside for an evening of food, fun, and celebration!

Saying Farewell to Pastor Sam, May 22

OpenCircle worship Pastor SamPastor Sam Yun has served at LAUMC as the minister of young adults since 2011, leading OpenCircle young adult ministry as well as serving our church in many other ways. For the last year, he has been appointed here half-time as he also worked to start a new church in the East Bay, called EMBRACE CHURCH. Soon he will transition to serve EMBRACE full-time, and his last Sunday at LAUMC will be May 22. He will give the message at all four worship services that day.

We are all invited to an All-Church Family Dinner in his honor that evening in Creekside at 6:15pm, featuring a delicious Korean barbecue feast. To help Chef Fred Mayo with meal planning, please RSVP for the dinner. Donations will be accepted to offset the cost of the dinner. Following the dinner, the OpenCircle young adults invite us to stay for a brief celebration of Pastor Sam’s years of ministry with us.

If you would like to make a financial gift to Pastor Sam, please write a check payable to Samuel Yun and put it in the Sunday offering or bring it to the church office. Pastor Sam will be told the names of givers but not individual gift amounts. If you would like it to be part of a gift shared with him at the farewell dinner and celebration, please deliver it by Wednesday, May 18. Otherwise, checks may be sent through May 31 to be included in the final total.

Invitation to All-Church Family Dinner, April 24

Our monthly All-Church Family Dinners on Sunday evenings have been a huge success! The meals are delicious, and Creekside has come alive with fellowship and celebration. Next up is dinner on April 24 at 6:15pm, when Chef Fred Mayo will prepare a Mexican feast to celebrate the completion of LAUMC’s most recent Mexico house-building trip and to highlight all the areas of service supported by our Bold Service & Social Justice Committee (BSSJ).

The Mexican menu will include favorites such as: carnitas, frijoles, salsas, hibiscus punch, and a dessert of churros and ice cream. BSSJ committee members will be on hand to share stories of LAUMC mission projects, social justice efforts, and agency outreach connections. They will be available to help YOU connect to opportunities for service with our local and global communities!
