The contemporary Church has mostly forgotten that in the first century, the Church was a body of risk-taking, tenacious, changemaking pioneers. They changed the world as they adapted their familiar traditions, incorporating what they learned as they experimented with living out the teachings of Jesus. Now—especially now—the lessons of the Christian communities described in the Book of Acts are there for us to retrieve and learn from. Our sermons through Pentecost will explore the stories of the apostles and the early Church and consider how they might inspire us to be changemakers today.
