Every year since 2010, Los Altos United Methodist Church has invited its members and friends to participate in a tradition called Advent Generosity. We gather up our resources and put them together with connection, compassion, and courage. In the last ten years, Advent Generosity has invested almost $1 million in this community.
This year, every member and friend of the church is invited – YOU are invited – to set aside money during the four weeks before Christmas. Think of it as an amount that matches or replaces something you don’t need this year: decorations, travel, entertainment, unnecessary gifts. The church will do the same: 100% of its Christmas Eve contributions will go to this Advent Generosity.
This year, your support will offer
Courage – with semester-long scholarships for ten at-risk students in the Mountain View-Whisman School District, allowing them to attend school remotely from a safe, networked, supervised learning pod.
Connection – a partnership with UMCOR and the California-Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church, to rebuild homes for six families who lost everything in the California wildfires.
Compassion – our continuing commitment to undergird the growing movement that Compassion Week has become: a community-wide, multi-faith, religious-and-secular partnership in service and volunteerism.
This is how we prepare for the birth of Jesus: We partner in the work of bringing justice, peace, hope, joy, and love to the community we love and the world God loves.
There are many ways to give between now and December 25.
- Write a check and send it to LAUMC, 655 Magdalena Avenue, Los Altos, CA 94024. Designate Advent Generosity on the envelope or the check memo line.
- Credit card, you can visit paypal.com or use the PayPal app and send your donation to adventgenerosity@laumc.org.
- Visit the Advent Generosity donation page and give to the Advent Generosity gift fund.
- Text “AG” and your gift amount to 650-229-5200.
