Find out how one of our partner agencies nurtures dreams and helps break the cycle of poverty during the Outreach Connection presentation in all worship services on Sunday, November 8. MVLA Scholars (formerly MVLA Community Scholars) provides renewable college scholarships and mentorships to low-income, high-potential youth from Los Altos, Mountain View, and Alta Vista High Schools who are often the first in their families to attend college.
Not only is paying for college a big hurdle for these students, their parents often don’t know how to help them navigate the application process or assist with issues that might arise in college. The Scholars program provides both funding and one-on-one mentoring by adult volunteers. Mentors stay with these students through their college years, giving advice and support to help increase their odds of graduating.
Each of the 100 local students currently supported has an inspirational story. With our help, MVLA Scholars could support many more underserved and determined students. To donate or volunteer, visit the MVLA Scholars website or make a donation in worship on November 8.
