Pastor Mark and Bonnie Bollwinkel have faithfully served Los Altos UMC for more than 15 years, but we will be saying good-bye in June as they head to their next ministry setting. To honor their ministry with us, the Staff Parish Relations Committee has organized a farewell party and some parting gifts. Bollwinkel Celebration: A Good-Bye Party for Mark & Bonnie

MVPastor Mark BollwinkelThe Bollwinkel Celebration honoring Pastor Mark and Bonnie will be held on Saturday, June 7, 3:30–7:30pm, at the San Jose Municipal Stadium (home of the San Jose Giants minor league baseball team, although there is no home game that day). The stadium is an excellent venue for a large summer event and is comfortable for all ages. We will have access to the entire stadium grounds, including the Family Fun Zone, dinner prepared by the stadium’s foodservice staff, and use of the public address system, scoreboard video screens, and parking lot. A few generous donors have underwritten part of the cost of putting on this event, and ticket sales will cover the remaining cost.

If you have any questions about the event that are not answered below, please contact BollwinkelCelebration@laumc.org.

Tickets

Tickets include event admission and dinner. Tickets are set at two prices ($17 or $24), based on your dinner selection. (Tickets are required for admission even if you do not plan to eat dinner.)

Tickets are available for purchase online through June 4. NOTE: Sales of the $17 tickets has been extended until 5:00pm on June 6. No tickets will be sold at the event! Please note that the true costs of the tickets are $17 and $24. Due to the automatic “service charge” component of the San Jose Giants ticket order process, we have adjusted the base prices to $15.50 and $22.50 so that when the “service charge” is added, you pay the actual ticket prices. The San Jose Giants are NOT charging us a service charge to print the tickets – they have generously waived that cost for our celebration.

Tickets can be picked up at a Will Call table at the entrance to the San Jose Municipal Stadium on June 7 after 3:15pm.

For those who are not comfortable ordering online or without Internet access, a limited number of tickets are available to purchase at the church office.

Both meal options include frozen yogurt in a Giants helmet and one drink (soda or water). Beer, wine, and extra drinks will be available for cash purchase. Picnic tables and tables with chairs are available for eating. Please note that a ticket is required for admission even if you do not plan to eat the included dinner. Gifts

The Staff Parish Relations Committee has set up three ways to give a farewell gift honoring Pastor Mark’s ministry: donations to a scholarship fund at Claremont School of Theology, personal financial gifts to Mark & Bonnie, and a scrapbook of personalized pages from the congregation.

Mark S. Bollwinkel Scholarship Fund

Our donations will establish a fund to create the Rev. Dr. Mark S. Bollwinkel Scholarship at the Claremont School of Theology. Mark received his Doctor of Ministry and Master of Divinity degrees from Claremont and has served on its Board of Directors for six years. Our dream is to honor Mark’s 15 years at LAUMC by collecting sufficient funds to award a full-tuition scholarship (currently $16,000) to one Master of Divinity student each year for 15 years. Selected candidates will be on track for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church. The first yearly scholarship will be awarded in May 2015 and then again in May of each successive year until the donations we receive are fully expended. You can make your tax-deductible donation through our online giving portal or by check payable to LAUMC with “Bollwinkel Scholarship” in the memo line. Checks can be sent to the church office or put in the Sunday offering plate. Imagine a future Bollwinkel scholar serving as a pastor at LAUMC one day!

Mark and Bonnie Bollwinkel Gift Fund

Mark and Bonnie will be starting the next chapter in their lives in Carmel. One can only guess what they might need or enjoy as they make this move. Donations to a special Bollwinkel Gift Fund will go directly to Mark and Bonnie for their personal use. If you would like to give a monetary gift, please make your check payable to Mark and/or Bonnie Bollwinkel with “Gift” in the memo line. The SPRC will collect all checks and deposit them in Mark and Bonnie’s savings account. Only the names of the gift givers will be provided to Mark and Bonnie. Checks can be sent to the church office or put in the Sunday offering plate. Contributions will be accepted only until June 5. Your direct contribution to Mark and Bonnie is NOT tax-deductible.

Memories Scrapbook

The Celebration Gift Committee will be assembling a scrapbook for Mark and Bonnie to take with them as a remembrance of their years at LAUMC and the people they touched through their ministries here. If you would like to contribute a note or letter to Mark and Bonnie with your thoughts, memories, and good wishes, please mail or bring your item to the church office addressed to the SPRC. They will accept your notes and letters until June 1.

Thank you for joining in making these gifts possible.
