Holy Week and Easter 2021

The days leading up to Easter and Easter Sunday, will again, look different this year. We will miss gathering together to experience the symbolism of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the joyous celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. Even still, we believe the services of Holy Week speak to us in this time of sheltering in place.

Holy Week services commemorate Jesus’ life, death on the cross, and resurrection on Easter. Join Jesus in his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, his last gathering with his disciples on Maundy Thursday, his sacrifice and sorrow on Good Friday, his time of waiting on Holy Saturday, and his astonishing resurrection on Easter Sunday. As you journey through Holy Week with LAUMC, may you discover a richer, joy-filled Easter.

Online Worship – March 28, 8:30am, 10:00am, & 5:00pm
Celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This online service will feature a Palm Sunday Virtual Procession celebratory video featuring photos and videos from the congregation waving palms at home.

Online Worship – April 1, 7:00pm
On Maundy Thursday, the Thursday before Easter, we mark Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, the evening before his crucifixion. This is the origin of the sacrament of communion, and it begins the vigil we keep as we spiritually accompany Jesus through Good Friday and toward Easter. Join us for contemplative online worship at 7pm led by Pastor Sam, Pastor Jeremy, and Pastor Jeong, this special online service is not to be missed.

In-Person Self-Guided Observance – April 2, 7:00am – 6:00pm
An empty cross will stand under the oak tree at the entry to the Los Altos campus from 7 am to 6 pm. You are invited to come as you can and as you are, to engage in a personal and private ritual of remembrance of Jesus’ death (directions will be provided), and to spend a few moments in silence at the cross.
