In partnership with the city of Los Altos, LAUMC is sharing opportunities to increase your own and your community’s preparation level for emergencies.
AlertSCC is a free and easy way to get emergency alerts sent as texts directly to your cell phone. Alerts can include: fire, earthquake, severe weather, crime incident that affects your neighborhood, and instructions during a disaster. AlertSCC is used by every city and town in Santa Clara County to distribute emergency alerts and warnings. To be warned and stay informed about customized, location-based incidents, text your zip code to 888777.
When disaster strikes, it may be several days before emergency services arrive in your neighborhood. Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) is a free three-hour training class that teaches individuals and families how to prepare to be self-reliant the first 72 hours following a major disaster. This class includes home and workplace preparedness, fire safety, treating life-threatening conditions, and how to build a disaster supplies kit. The next two classes are April 20 in Saratoga, 9:00am–12:15pm, and May 9 in Los Gatos, 4:00–7:15pm. To register, look for PEP on eventbrite.com and choose the date that best suits your schedule. For further information, contact the Santa Clara County Fire Department (sccfd.org or 408-378-4010).
